Phnom Penh
A not-to-be-missed capital city radiating youthful energy where new and trendy spots rub shoulders with colonial houses and old monuments. The Silver Pagoda and the splendid National Museum, with their treasures from the four corners of the country, should not be missed!
Siem Reap
A northern market town that used to be the main trading-post with its Thai neighbour, for a long time. Today, it is quite well-known owing to its proximity with the world-famous Angkor complex and a national museum opened in 2007. Thanks to the latter, visitors better understand the grandeur and complexity of Angkor and what an achievement it was, to build it.
Battambang
With its spirits recently lifted up, Battambang is a pretty, lovely city, much appreciated, for its many charms and its architecture dating back to the colonial era. Large gardens planted with frangipani scattered all over the city fill the streets with their unmistakable fragrance. During the monsoon, when the water level allows it, one can travel to Siem Reap by boat.
Although nature is everywhere, it is at its best in the east and most particularly, in the Ratanakiri Province.
Cambodia also boasts beautiful beaches; the most well-known are located in Kampot and Sihanoukville. The latter is blessed with white sandy beaches and travelling from there to Phnom Penh is easy and comfortable. |
